According to Wikipedia Area 51 is located in the southern portion of Nevada in the western United States, 83 miles (134 km) north-northwest of Las Vegas. Situated at its center, on the southern shore of Groom Lake, is a large military airfield. The site was acquired by the United States Air Force in 1955, primarily for the flight testing of the Lockheed U-2 aircraft.The area around Area 51, including the small town of Rachel on the "Extraterrestrial Highway", is a popular tourist destination.

1.Area 51 used to run a project called ‘have donut’ where the US secretly acquired Russian MIG fighters for the purpose of cloning them.

5.Many years ago, then president (Eisenhower) put Area 51 officially under the auspices of the CIA, who were tasked with developing the first U.S spy plane, the U-2, which was used during the Cold War.

6.In the 1970s it was unclear what the fate of Area 51 would be, as the CIA no longer needed the facility for its recon projects. But instead of shutting the place down, command was simply transferred to the Air Force, who use it to this day to develop stealth jets.


7.Even though the very name, Area 51, is pretty cryptic, the secret facility has numerous other nicknames. Such as Groom Lake and Paradise Ranch, among numerous others.


8.Area 51 doesn’t have an internet connection at all. Obviously, in order to avoid its systems from being attacked by hackers.
